Maclay Flat.

General information.

Region: Region 2--West Central.
Dominant Setting: prairie/plains, forest, river/stream.
Location: From Highway 93 south, cross the Bitterroot River, and take the Blue Mountain County Road on the right. Go past the horse trailhead where the asphalt turns to dirt, past the lookout road on the left, down the hill you'll find Maclay Flat on your right.
Manager: USDA Forest Service.
Amenities: accessible bathrooms, pit toilets, parking.
This site is open year-round.

Trail name: Maclay Flat Self-Guiding Interpretive Trail.
Type of trail: loop trail.
Trail surface: gravel, surface is firm, surface is stable.
Trail dimensions: minimum clear tread width of 60 inches, maximum running slope of 11.4 degrees, maximum cross slope of 7.2 degrees.
Length: 1 to 3 miles.
Other trail features: benches, some benches have back support.
Comment: The 1 1/4 mile trail loop has several sections where the slope ranges from 5-11.4% for 75' or less. For the most part, much of the trail is fairly flat and accessible. The portion of the trail that creates a 2 mile loop is somewhat accessible. Slopes in this section are fairly minimal, however there is about a 500' section where grass has grown down the centerline of the trail. The trail is also narrower in this loop, averaging about 48".

Trail dimensions: minimum clear tread width of 60 inches, maximum running slope of 8.3 degrees, maximum cross slope of 4.7 degrees.

Comment: Most interpretive signs found along the trail are accessible.

Site has disabled access, an interpretive trail, bus parking, and a non-motorized boat launch. Horses are not allowed.
